AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—The Air Force Academy is getting 19 new gliders for cadet training.

The Air Force is paying $4.8 million for the gliders and 11 trailers. The academy will formally accept delivery on Friday at its campus outside Colorado Springs.

The TG-16A gliders are made by a German company. They replace TG-10B and TG-10C gliders currently in use.

The gliders will join a new fleet of powered training aircraft. The academy announced last month it is buying 25 single-engine airplanes for a total of $6.1 million.

The powered aircraft replace a fleet of 20 leased training planes.
