WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.—Authorities say a car driven by a 96-year-old man into a fast-flowing Denver-area creek jumped the parking block and went into the water.

Police say Ettore Scena of Wheat Ridge died after the accident Wednesday in the suburban park. The car was carried about 1,000 feet down Clear Creek before it was slowed by obstructions to the point that firefighters could tether it.

Firefighters say Scena didn’t have a pulse when rescuers arrived and it took nearly two hours to get him out of the car.
