As expected, the Rockies placed outfielder Charlie Blackmon on the 15-day disabled list today because of his fractured left foot. Replacing Blackmon on the 25-man roster is outfielder Cole Garner, who was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Garner will be in Washington and available for tonight’s game against the Nationals.
Blackmon, 25, broke his foot during Thursday’s game in Atlanta. In 27 games since his recall on June 7, Blackmon hit .255 with a double, a home run, nine runs and eight RBIs.
Garner, 26, will be making his second appearance on the Rockies’ roster this season. He made his big-league debut just four days ago at Atlanta. He was optioned back to Triple-A on Tuesday.
The California native has hit .340 (51-for-150) with seven doubles, three triples, seven home runs in 36 games for the Sky Sox.
