Hygiene Fire Protection District Chief William Nelson was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of impersonating an officer and driving under the influence.
Nelson, 57, used his personal car to pull someone over after a traffic altercation at 10:15 p.m. near North Foothills Highway and Hygiene Road, according to Boulder County sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Dimond. No details of the altercation were available Sunday.
Boulder County sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene determined Nelson was intoxicated, Dimond said. Deputies also found less than an ounce of marijuana and guns in his vehicle, he said.
Nelson, who remained at the Boulder County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail Sunday afternoon, is expected to make his first court appearance today.
