During a special meeting of the fire district’s board of directors, Assistant Chief Bill Eliasen was appointed acting chief in Nelson’s place, according to the press release.
Nelson, 57, was arrested at about 10:15 p.m. at North Foothills Highway and Hygiene Road in Boulder County, according to Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mike Diamond.
Following a traffic altercation, Nelson reportedly used the emergency lights on his personal vehicle to pull over another vehicle, Diamond said.
