Chatfield State Park’s swim beach re-opened today, after high levels of E. coli in the water forced the beach to close last week.
A routine water test revealed the high bacteria levels on Thursday.
The spike in the bacteria levels was likely caused by recent heavy rains and high temperatures, according to a news release from Colorado State Parks.
Officials monitored the water until bacteria levels returned to normal.
“The swim beach closure was essential to protect the public,” said Keith Kahler, Chatfield State Park’s operations manager. “Closures due to high bacteria counts occur very rarely at Chatfield.”
The swim beach is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., through Labor Day.
