Police are looking for a man they say broke into an Aurora home and violently attacked and attempted to sexually assault a 22-year-old woman while she was sleeping.
On July 1, shortly after 4 a.m., the man entered the woman’s home near E. 16th Avenue and Beeler Street, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.
The suspect entered the house through a sliding glass door after lifting it out of its tracks. The door was locked, but there was no safety bar in place.
The man then violently attacked the woman and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman, who has some martial arts and self-defense training, was able to fight off her attacker, causing him to run away.
The man was described as being in his 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and braided hair. One braid appeared to stick out in an unusual way.
Aurora police is offering a reward of up to $5,000 – in addition to the $2,000 Denver Crime Stoppers reward – for information about the case.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Sex Crimes Detective Lana Maddox at 303-739-6136, Public Safety Communications at 303-627-3100 or metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
