WASHINGTON — The House and Senate are clashing over legislation to continue the Federal Aviation Administration’s operating authority, raising the possibility of an agency shutdown this week.
The FAA’s operating authority expires Friday. Lawmakers say the FAA’s 15,500 air traffic controllers are essential employees and would continue to work. But other workers could face furloughs. Airlines would no longer have to collect ticket taxes.
The dispute is over the inclusion of a provision ending federal subsidies to 13 small airports in a House GOP bill to extend the FAA’s authority.
