RALEIGH, N.C.—Military officials say an Army sergeant and a Marine Corps lance corporal, both based in North Carolina, have been killed in separate incidents.

The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that 25-year-old Sgt. Mark A. Cofield of Colorado Springs, Colo., died July 17 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.

Cofield was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg.

Also, the department announced 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Jabari N. Thompson of Brooklyn, N.Y., died July 17 of wounds sustained July 13 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.

Thompson was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
