Colorado’s second men’s basketball season under coach Tad Boyle will start on the road — in Puerto Rico. The Buffaloes will be one of eight teams competing in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan starting Nov. 17.

Boyle announced the schedule Wednesday. CU will face Georgia in its first home game, on Nov. 28. Before that, the Buffs travel to Air Force on Nov. 23.

CU goes to Fort Collins to play rival Colorado State on Nov. 30.

A seven-game homestand starts Dec. 7 against visiting Fresno State. And CU’s first Pac-12 Conference game is Dec. 31 against Utah. CU will add one more home nonleague game to the schedule.

The pairings of the Puerto Rico tournament will be announced next week. An NIT semifinals rematch with Alabama is one prospect. NIT champion Wichita State also is in the field.

• Colorado State men’s basketball will start the 2011-12 season with a high-profile tournament.

The team is scheduled to travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to play in the opening round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off in November.

The Rams, seeded seventh in the 16-team tournament, will play in the West Regional being held at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion from Nov. 14-16. CSU will open against Southern Methodist. Third-seeded Stanford hosts Fresno State.

Syracuse is the top seed. Oklahoma State is No. 2 and Virginia Tech No. 4.

CU-CSU women on Nov. 20.

Colorado finalized its women’s basketball schedule — except for game times. Second-year coach Linda Lappe’s team opens Nov. 11 at the Coors Events Center against Northern Arizona, and the showdown game with CSU is Nov. 20 at Moby Arena in Fort Collins.

The Buffs’ annual Thanksgiving weekend tournament has CU playing Valparaiso on Nov. 25 and either Wisconsin or Montana State the next night.

The University of Denver visits Boulder on Dec. 8.

The Pac-12 schedule will be 18 games, with CU playing “institutional rival” Utah home-and-home each season. The Buffs open conference play with three straight games on the road, starting with Utah on Dec. 31. Final Four participant Stanford visits Boulder on Jan. 14.

• Former CU and Tulsa women’s coach Kathy McConnell-Miller is now an assistant with the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA. She was hired by interim head coach Teresa Edwards, who got the job when Nolan Richardson resigned this month.

Eagles re-sign goalie Jones.

The Colorado Eagles re-signed goaltender Kyle Jones, who was the starting netminder in last season’s Central Hockey League All-Star Game. Jones’ 29 wins ranked second in the league. The Eagles move to the ECHL this coming season.
