Getting your player ready...

Steel iron shafts are easy to select for most golfers. A good rule of thumb is don’t go too stiff.

The Project X Flighted series varies low to high flex points from long to short irons. This encourages higher ball flight. They work.

Colorado has a shaft company. KBS, based in Boulder, is starting to make some noise, both on tour and with better players.

Graphite driver shafts are a different story. There are so many, it’s impossible to test all. But all major brands have good products.

How do you select the right shaft?

Don Brown, product development manager for Grafalloy, says, “If you are a mid to higher handicap, look for a shaft with a lower flex point and somewhat softer overall flex than you might think you need. This will provide for a higher launch angle for more carry.”
