Police closed off Boulder Canyon for about an hour Wednesday as they searched for a man who crashed his SUV near Boulder Creek and then fled the scene. The accident occurred near the intersection of Sixth Street and Canyon Boulevard around 1 p.m., according to Trooper Nate Reid, a spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol. Reid said the suspect then exited the 1995 Chevy Blazer on foot toward Boulder Canyon.
“The guy came climbing out of the bushes, and he was soaking wet,” said Dan Meliota, who was biking near the crash scene and heard the accident. “He seemed to be maybe in shock and he said he needed a ride and he didn’t want to get in trouble. So he took off down the bike path, and that was the last I saw of him.”
At around 1:45 p.m., it was reported the suspect — described as a bald white man in his 40s, wearing a white tank top and shorts, with blood splatters on the shirt from a possible abdominal wound — was headed to Eben G. Fine Park. Police blocked off the area and searched the park, but they called the search off at about 2:45 p.m. and reopened Boulder Canyon.
