ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo.—A 26-year-old Kansas man hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park was flown to an area hospital after park rangers determine he had severe high altitude sickness.
Park officials say the man from Wichita was rescued Friday morning when a park crew contacted him. They say the man, whose name wasn’t released, had been in the park in northern Colorado since Wednesday.
Park officials say the man stayed overnight in the park before going climbing and ended up spending an unplanned night Thursday.
High altitude sickness occurs when someone can’t get enough oxygen. The symptoms include a headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, feeling weak or dizzy. Sometimes it’s deadly.
