BOSTON — The Red Sox’s Jon Lester was activated from the disabled list Monday to start against the Royals. Meanwhile, Clay Buchholz threw 30 pitches off a bullpen mound and felt his strained lower back was improving.
“I’m 80 percent now. It’s hard to pitch like that in the big leagues. That’s what the Double-A and Triple- A starts are for,” Buchholz said
Lester had been on the disabled list since July 7 with a strained muscle in his back. To make room for him, Boston optioned righty Kyle Weiland to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Police looking for more victims
LOS ANGELES — A law enforcement official said police suspect the two men charged in the beating of a Giants fan at Dodger Stadium also assaulted at least three other Giants fans on opening day. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
