Boulder’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board recommended Monday night that the city go with lower fees than what was proposed by the city staff — but higher than those suggested by the businesses themselves.

“These are valuable businesses, and they offer a great service to the community,” said Michelle Estrella, the board’s vice chairwoman and the one who came up with the compromise. “I personally wouldn’t want to see any business flee over this.”

Businesses now need a permit, but they aren’t charged a fee to hold classes or run programs at city parks.
