BOSTON — The Red Sox placed struggling right fielder J.D. Drew on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a sore right shoulder and recalled infielder Drew Sutton from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Also, infielder Kevin Youkilis was not in the starting lineup against the Royals a day after straining his right hamstring trying to beat out an infield single.

Lincecum out because of flu

PHILADELPHIA — Giants right-hander Tim Lincecum was scratched from his scheduled start against the Phillies because of the flu.

Lincecum (8-8, 2.90 ERA) is day to day and could pitch in tonight’s game.

Catcher Brian McCann left Atlanta’s game against the Pirates with an apparent side injury, while third baseman Chipper Jones (quadriceps) is day to day.

• Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was out of the lineup because of a stomach virus.

• Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista left Toronto’s game against Baltimore after being hit in the helmet by a pitch from Orioles right-hander Jake Arrieta.

• The Orioles activated designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero (hand) and optioned right-hander Mark Worrell to Triple-A Norfolk.

• The Tigers outrighted the contract of Brandon Inge to Triple-A Toledo. The third baseman accepted the assignment and will report to the Mud Hens.
