Marc Schiechl, a former Colorado Mines and Bear Creek High School star, signed an NFL contract Tuesday with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie.
Schiechl, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive lineman, graduated from Mines in May with a degree in mechanical engineering. He finished his Orediggers career as the NCAA’s all-time Division II leader in sacks with 46. He was the runner-up for the NCAA’s 2010 Division II lineman of the year award and was named defensive player of the game at the Cactus Bowl, a postseason all-star game for Division II seniors.
Lee, Collins reach CWGA final.
Somin Lee of HeatherRidge Golf Course and Brooke Collins of Omni Interlocken will play for the Colorado Women’s Golf Association’s Match Play Championship title today.
Lee, the Class 5A champion at Overland High School this spring, advanced Tuesday by defeating Lindsay Reeve of Boulder Country Club 4 and 2. Collins defeating Molly Dorans of Eagle Trace 1 up.
• The team representing the CWGA was 11th after the first round of the Girls Junior Americas Cup competition in Reno, Nev., 12 strokes behind the leader, a team from northern California. Allie Johnston of Castle Rock led the CWGA team with a 2-over-par 74.
Girls ages 14-17 are competing against teams from golf associations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The list of previous medalists in the tournament includes Lorena Ochoa and Natalie Gulbis.
