A severe thunderstorm warning for western Arapahoe and southern Denver counties expired at 6:30 p.m. after the system weakened over the city, the National Weather Service said.

A storm capable of producing “intense” rain and winds up to 60 mph was located over Centennial at about 6 p.m. moving northeast at 20 mph.

By 6:20 p.m. the system had weakened, however.

Downtown Denver was deluged shortly after 6 p.m.

Denver has a 30 percent chance of precipitation until midnight, forecasters said.

Much of the western slope is under a flash flood warning until 10 p.m. And Washington County on the Eastern Plains is under a flood advisory until 7:30 p.m. because of the surge in monsoonal moisture moving across the state this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
