DENVER—A man accused of breaking into a suburban Denver bookstore and planting three homemade bombs has pleaded not guilty.

David Lawless appeared in Denver federal court Wednesday. A judge ordered him held without bail. His trial is scheduled for Oct. 3.

Lawless is charged with two counts of arson and one count of using a destructive device during a crime of violence.

Defense lawyer Andres Guervara (geh-VAR’ah) declined to comment.

Lawless is accused of leaving the bombs at a Borders Books and Music store at the Colorado Mills Mall on June 25. An indictment also accused of trying to destroy a Denver restaurant the day before, but details were unclear.

Authorities haven’t given any motive for the attacks.
