CLEVELAND — The Indians acquired outfielder Kosuke Fukudome from the Cubs for two prospects Thursday.

Fukudome is hitting .273 with three homers and 13 RBIs in 87 games. Through an interpreter, Fukudome said he knew little about Cleveland.

“Lake Erie is right next to it,” he said. “I know it looks like Chicago.”

Triple-A right-hander Carlton Smith and Single-A outfielder Abner Abreu were shipped to the Cubs. Outfielder Travis Buck was designated for assignment to clear roster space in Cleveland, and the Indians also received cash. Fukudome is being paid $13.5 million in 2011.
