For the first time since 2005, it’s possible that a company other than Boulder Creek Events could take over management of the popular Boulder Creek Festival.
The city recently received three bids from companies interested in taking over the annual Memorial Day weekend event, which takes place in downtown Boulder and culminates with thousands of rubber ducks racing down the creek.
According to city records, the bidders are Boulder Creek Events, Colorado Events and DBC Events. All of the companies are based in Boulder.
Officials are scoring the bids, said city spokeswoman Sarah Huntley, so the details of the plans are not public. A winner will be named by late August or early September.
City officials decided earlier this year to put the management of the festival out for a competitive bid for the first time in six years.
