DURANGO, Colo.—The U.S. Department of Energy is considering a solar-panel array at a site where radioactive material from an old uranium processing plant is buried.

The development at Bodo Canyon would cover 21 acres of the site southwest of Durango.

According to the Durango Herald ( ), the waste totals more than 2 million cubic yards of tailings.

The tailings are from a mill that processed uranium in Durango from 1942 to 1963.
