PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has paid a surprise visit to Peterson Air Force Base.
Panetta’s brief visit was made Friday but the Air Force didn’t make it public until Tuesday.
The purpose of the visit wasn’t announced, but the base is home to three high-profile commands headed by five-star officers: the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the U.S. Northern Command and the Air Force Space Command.
NORAD and Northern Command share a single commander.
A story posted on the Peterson website said Panetta spoke to a small group of Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine personnel.
