A Chappelow K-8 teacher accused of cheating on the Colorado Student Assessment Program tests in March is fighting a recommendation that she be dismissed by Greeley-Evans School District 6.
Joann Angus, an eighth-grade science teacher, said she did not want to comment on the issue when contacted by phone on Monday, but her attorney, Charles Kaiser, who represents the Colorado Education Association, said a hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21 in Greeley.
In a letter dated May 3 to the Board of Education, District 6 Superintendent Ranelle Lang recommended Angus be terminated for “insubordination, incompetence, immorality and other good and just cause.”
Angus has worked at Chappelow since being hired by District 6 in June 2004. She has 16 years teaching experience in Colorado. Angus is one of two non-probationary teachers Lang has recommended be dismissed in the past two months. In July, Lang recommended the board fire Greeley West High School teacher and coach Bill Whitehead for allegedly hitting a student. Whitehead is in the process of deciding whether to challenge his dismissal.
