Police have arrested a 19-year-old Longmont man on suspicion of five counts of sexual assault on a child after the father of a 12-year-old girl reported that entries in the girl’s diary indicated she had sex with the man.

Randy A. Markham was booked into Boulder County Jail on Sunday.

According to police reports, the girl’s grandmother uncovered the diary entries, from July 6 and July 19, indicating the sexual acts. The girl’s father confronted the girl about the entries. He told police that she said she met Markham at Centennial Park and told him she was 12 but that “he was fine with it because she was such a wonderful person.”

According to reports, Markham told his own parents that the girl was 17 and took her to his home multiple times to have sex. Markham told officers that he did not know the girl was 12 but admitted to having sex with her five times after an initial denial, police reported.
