Getting your player ready...

During a strange NFL year in which a lockout all but destroyed the offseason and a frenzied free-agent signing period followed the opening of training camps, Thursday likely will be the first day everyone gets a look at the Broncos’ big picture.

The league’s new collective bargaining agreement doesn’t allow veteran free agents who have signed contracts to practice until Thursday. That’s because the CBA has to be formally ratified by the NFL Players Association, which is supposed to happen Thursday.

Here are a few of the new Broncos who have been waiting to get on the practice field:

  •  Running back Willis McGahee received a four-year contract, which shows how much the Broncos wanted him.

Knowshon Moreno likely will continue to be the No. 1 tailback, but McGahee will get plenty of carries if he shows some explosiveness — particularly inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

  •  Defensive tackle Ty Warren, a Texas A&M product who made 20-1/2 sacks and 92 starts for the Patriots from 2003-09, missed last season because of hip surgery. He’s apparently good to go, because the Broncos signed him to a two-year contract.

Warren has been a leader on a powerhouse team. If he can play as he did for the Patriots, he will make an immediate impact with the Broncos.

  •  Defensive end Derrick Harvey, a former first-round draft pick from Florida, hasn’t lived up to expectations. After three seasons with the Jaguars, he has only eight sacks in his NFL career.

One thing in Harvey’s favor is his age. He’s entering his fourth season but doesn’t turn 25 until Nov. 9.

  •  Wide receiver David Anderson is a former Colorado State star who caught 81 passes for 886 yards and three touchdowns in five seasons with the Texans.

The Broncos return Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal at wide receiver, but they’re looking for help at that position. Anderson has made 10 starts in his NFL career.
