A theft and burglary suspect who ran from officers was found hiding in a maggot infested trash can, police said.
The incident happened Tuesday afternoon in Colorado Springs, according to the city’s police department crime blotter.
Members of the department’s scrap metal task force were watching two suspects — believed to be involved in “numerous” thefts of copper pipe — in the 1100 block of Richards Avenue. Officers closed in to arrest the pair, a man and a woman, and the man ran away.
The woman was taken into custody and police pursued the man, setting up a containment perimeter. While scouring the 1100 block of Florence Avenue officers found the suspect hiding in a “maggot infested trash can.”
Police arrested Matthew Porter and Wendy Grass and the pair are being held at the El Paso County Jail.
Porter and Grass are suspected of committing as many as 10 residential burglaries each week over the course of the last year, police said.
