AURORA — A new poll shows current City Councilman Ryan Frazier leading the race to become Aurora’s next mayor.

According to a Magellan Data and Mapping Strategies poll commissioned by Frazier, he would receive 27 percent of the vote if the election were held today.

Former Councilman Steve Hogan received 14 percent. Debbie Stafford, a former state representative, received 11 percent. Jude Sandvall, who was chairman of the city’s Business Advisory Board, received 4 percent.

Former RTD board member Barbara Yamrick netted 3 percent and psychotherapist Sheilah Davis 2 percent.

Some 39 percent of those polled were undecided.

The autodial survey was conducted Monday and Tuesday and polled 642 active voters in Aurora. The margin of error is +/-3.84 percent.

“We have much more work to do, but I am encouraged by the response we have seen so far,” Frazier said in a statement.

The six candidates are seeking to replace current Mayor Ed Tauer, who is term limited.

Frazier was also tops in name recognition, with 71 percent of those surveyed saying they had heard of him. About 57 percent had heard of Hogan; 48 percent of Stafford; 29 percent of Sandvall; 17 percent of Yamrick; and 14 percent of Davis.

Of those polled, 41 percent were Republican, 37 percent Democrat and 22 percent were unaffiliated. And 83 percent of those polled were white.

The deadline to file campaign finance reports was Wednesday but they were not immediately available online. Frazier said he has raised more than $125,000 from more than 200 donors since he announced his candidacy in May.

In a press release on Wednesday, Hogan’s camp said it reported to the city it had raised $159,722 from more than 300 donors.

“With just two months to go until ballots go in the mail, we’re very confident Steve will be able to execute a fully funded grassroots campaign,” said Hogan campaign manager Marcus Pachner.

“Our campaign fundraising activity shows a strong diversity of supporters from Aurora and across Colorado,” Pachner added.
