The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Target Corp. has ordered the recall of wooden step stools that have repeatedly collapsed.

The federal agency said that the wooden step stools can break apart or collapse under the weight of the user posing a hazard.

Target has received 26 reports of the stools breaking or collapsing. Fourteen incidents involved children, seven involved adults and in five of the incidents the user’s age was unknown.

Two adults suffered fractured wrists and one of those victims also fractured her hip and pelvis.

Additionally, six children and one adult suffered scrapes and bruising.

According to the agency, the stool has two steps and comes in various colors, including natural, natural and red, white and honey.

The steps list the Circo or DYR brand name and the UPC numbers are printed on a label found underneath the step stool.

They were manufactured in China, Vietnam, Taiwan and Thailand and were sold for $25 to $30 between January 2007 and October 2010.

The product safety commission says consumers should immediately stop using the steps and return them to any Target store for a full refund.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com.
