The Colorado Attorney General’s Office today warned customers to be aware of firms charging upfront fees in return for assistance in recovering restitution from companies sued by the AG’s office.

Attorney General John Suthers issued the warning after consumers asked the attorney general’s office about Denver-based RMI Associates.

Suthers said RMI is offering to help the public recover restitution associated with the lawsuit filed by the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission against Dalbey Education Institute.

“The Office of the Attorney General learned of this scam after consumers inquired about the validity of RMI Associates and its Web site, .” said Suthers.

Dalbey is suspected of using infomercials to deceive consumers into believing they could break into the promissory note business and get rich.

Suthers said RMI Assocites is in no way affiliated with either the FTC or the AG’s office. Consumers can go to the Attorney General’s Web site and file a complaint free via .

Suthers said that consumers should not contact and pay fees to private companies to get their complaint submitted to state or federal authorities.
