On Wednesday night, a team of consultants outlined the three words that they believe describe how residents of Lafayette envision their town: diverse, creative and eclectic.

“In all the work we’ve done over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen as close to a singular message about how a community saw itself,” said John Ward, managing partner with 505 Design, a firm hired by the city of Lafayette to create a plan for how to reinvigorate Old Town.

Those three words formed the foundation for the proposal laid out by Ward’s team to about 30 residents for how to make Public Road more attractive to businesses and restaurants. For example, the plan suggested landscaping along Public Road that changes with the blocks — perhaps lavender on one block and grasses on another.

Other “diverse, creative and eclectic” possibilities included unusual bike racks and planter pots that are unique to each intersection.
