The Douglas County bomb squad determined that a suspicious package left at the Elizabeth Post Office this morning is harmless.

Crews determined that he package was a plastic box filled with medical supplies and ice packs, said Kara Gerczynski, deputy fire marshall for the Elizabeth Fire Protection District.

It is not yet known who left the box of supplies.

At 8:30 a.m., the post office was evacuated, as well as four business in the adjacent Countryside Village Shopping Center on the east side of Elizabeth near Colorado 86.

Several people were evacuated from Grumpy’s Coffee restaurant, and 12 employees were evacuated from the post office.

Post office employees said the package was left in the lobby sometime between 6:15 and 8:15 a.m. The lobby remains open at night so residents can access their mail.

Elizabeth is about 18 miles southeast of Parker.
