WASHINGTON — Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic reached the finals at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over American Donald Young on Saturday.
The 54th-ranked Stepanek will play in his first final of the season against the winner of Saturday’s evening semifinal pitting top-seeded Gael Monfils and No. 11 John Isner.
• Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland won 10 consecutive games to turn around her semifinal match and beat second-seeded Andrea Petkovic of Germany 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 at the Mercury Insurance Open in Carlsbad, Calif.
Radwanska will face top-seeded Vera Zvonareva of Russia, who beat No. 5 seed Ana Ivanovic of Serbia 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
• Robin Haase of the Netherlands defeated Albert Montanes of Spain 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to win his first ATP title at the Bet-at-Home Cup in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
Moreno scores twice in Chivas’ MLS victory
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Alejandro Moreno scored two goals as Chivas USA extended its unbeaten streak over the New England Revolution to five matches with a 3-2 victory.
• Nat Borchers and Luis Gil each scored in the first half to lead host Real Salt Lake to a 3-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
• Mauro Rosales and Lamar Neagle scored less than two minutes apart in the second half, giving the visiting Seattle Sounders a 2-1 win that snapped Sporting Kansas City’s 14-match unbeaten streak.
• Dwayne De Rosario capped his hat trick by converting a penalty kick in the 88th minute as host D.C. United salvaged a 3-3 draw with Toronto FC.
• Geoff Cameron‘s goal in the 84th minute gave the visiting Houston Dynamo a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union.
• Juninho scored the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute and David Beckham had two assists as the Los Angeles Galaxy beat visiting FC Dallas 3-1.
• Alan Gordon scored his first goal with San Jose, lifting the host Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers.
Tizway wins Whitney
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Tizway dominated 10 opponents to win the $750,000 Whitney Invitational Handicap and heavily favored Turbulent Descent scored an easy victory in the $250,000 Test Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Saratoga Race Course.
• Broad Bahn won the $1.5 million Hambletonian in East Rutherford, N.J., giving driver George Brennan a sweep of the two biggest races for 3-year-old trotters.
The victory in the Hambletonian came a little more than 30 minutes after Brennan guided Bold and Fresh to an upset victory in the Hambletonian Oaks for fillies.
