A free concert featuring the Beach Boys, the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado Children’s Chorale will take place Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. in Denver’s Civic Center to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

“You can’t get more American than the Beach Boys,” Mayor Michael Hancock said at a news conference Monday to announce “Colorado Remembers 9/11.” About 100 people turned out for the announcement and to see a truckload of rusted steel artifacts from the wrecked World Trade Center towers that rolled through town draped with a large American flag. The steel will be used in memorials at Babi Yar Park and The Counterterrorism Education Learning Lab (The CELL) on West 12th Avenue.
