DURANGO, Colo.—A rockslide that idled the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for more than four days is expected to cost the railroad about $500,000.
The slide last week forced the railroad to halt trips to Silverton while contractors removed debris. The railroad had to cut short trips and ran from Durango to Cascade Canyon.
Railroad owner Al Harper tells the Durango Herald () it is too early to determine exactly how much the rockslide cost the railroad, but he estimated it will be about $500,000, including refunds, discounted tickets and contractors.
