Fort Worth, Texas-based AMR Corp., the parent company of American Airlines Inc., announced Thursday that its subsidiary, AMR Eagle Holding Corp., has filed papers with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to potentially spin off its regional airline.
American Eagle would become an independent airline with a contract to fly for American Airlines, documents said. The SEC will review the request. AMR also said it would consider an outright sale of American Eagle.
