The Denver District Attorney’s office has started a formal criminal investigation into Watson Memorial Co.

The headstone maker suddenly shut its doors at the beginning of July and the phone line has been disconnected. Customers have complained to the Better Business Bureau, left notes at the business and have received few answers.

The DA’s office has heard from 10 customers and has sent paperwork to eight more, said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver DA’s office.

“It was determined a formal investigation was warranted,” she said.

The District Attorney began mulling a criminal investigation three weeks ago after they became aware of a number of complaints filed with the BBB.

The owner of Watson’s, Andrew Noe, has not returned calls seeking comment. His sister, Tammy McCarty says she has not heard from him and there is pending legal action against him.

Customers are encouraged to call the DA’s Economic Crime Unit at 720-913-9179 and provide information about their experience with the business. The unit will send the customers a packet asking for details, including about how much money the business owes them.
