All light-rail service between the I-25/Broadway station and downtown Denver will be shut this weekend beginning at midnight Friday so RTD can complete needed construction in advance of Monday’s reopening of the Central Platte Valley rail line to Union Station.
During the weekend closure, the Regional Transportation District will operate shuttle bus service linking the I-25/Broadway station with Union Station, and separately with the Theatre District/Convention Center station on 14th Street. Rail service on the downtown loop that includes California and Stout streets will continue to operate over the weekend north of the Convention Center station.
The Platte Valley rail line that serves Auraria West, Invesco Field, Pepsi Center/Elitch Gardens and Union Station has been shut down for three weeks so workers could complete construction of the new Union Station light-rail platform at 16th and Chestnut streets and make other transit improvements.
That rail service resumes early Monday morning with stops at Invesco, Pepsi Center and Union Station.
A newly constructed Auraria West rail station located several hundred yards from the old passenger platform will not open until the fall, said RTD spokeswoman Daria Serna.
When the new Union Station light-rail platform opens Monday morning, RTD also will extend its 16th Street Mall free bus shuttle about 2-1/2 blocks west to serve the new station.
