Thornton Police Chief Jim Nursey retired Wednesday after more than 44 years in law enforcement and 25 years as Thornton’s chief.
Nursey’s last day was marked by a Pass and Review ceremony outside Thornton’s Police Department.
“When I arrived here, the department was comprised of 68 commissioned officers, plus support personnel, code enforcement, animal control and dispatch,” Nursey said. “I inherited a group of highly ethical, dedicated, service-oriented personnel. I was impressed with these folks then, and I am even more impressed with the 239 members of this outstanding law enforcement agency today.”
Nursey lists the most notable changes in the police department as: the school resource officer program; the implementation of the Chaplains program; the development of the highly successful North Metro Drug Task Force; the implementation of the shared Thornton-Northglenn victim services program; and the unified Thornton-Northglenn SWAT team and hostage negotation unit.
