PHOENIX — The Diamondbacks signed free-agent infielder Lyle Overbay and placed infielder Xavier Nady on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand Saturday.

Also, Arizona designated pitcher Juan Jaime for assignment.

Nady was injured Friday night when he was hit by a second-inning pitch from the Mets’ Dillon Gee.

The 34-year-old Overbay was released Tuesday by Pittsburgh after hitting .227 with eight homers and 37 RBIs in 103 games.

Pirates’ Lee on DL

MILWAUKEE — The Pirates placed first baseman Derrek Lee on the 15-day disabled list.

Lee broke a bone in his left wrist when he was hit by the Cubs’ Carlos Marmol on Aug. 3. The move is retroactive to Aug. 10.

Lee, who was acquired from Baltimore on July 30, missed four games but returned Monday and played two games in San Francisco. He was batting .278 with two home runs and three RBIs in five games since the trade.

Infielder Josh Harrison was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his roster spot.

Alburquerque out of hospital

BALTIMORE — Tigers pitcher Al Alburquerque was released from a hospital with a concussion after being struck by a line drive during batting practice Friday.

Alburquerque was to be driven home to Detroit today because he was told not to fly, manager Jim Leyland said.

Giants lose Torres

MIAMI — The Giants placed outfielder Andres Torres on the 15-day DL and recalled infielder Brandon Belt from Triple-A Fresno.

Torres was hit by a ball during Friday night’s loss at Florida, resulting in a bruised right leg.

The Twins put infielder Alexi Casilla back on the DL with a strained right hamstring and said infielder Trevor Plouffe will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester today.

• The A’s recalled infielder Brandon Allen from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned infielder Adam Rosales and left-hander Jordan Norberto.

• The Mariners placed Justin Smoak on the DL with a nondisplaced fracture of his nose, suffered when he was hit by a bad-hop grounder Friday, and recalled Wily Mo Peña from Triple-A Tacoma.
