Mystery, the dog purposely thrown out of a car while it was traveling west on Ute Pass last week, is recovering slowly, according to Dr. David Volz of The Animal Clinic of Woodland Park, which is treating the injured canine.

Volz said Monday that she’s doing fine, eating well and resting comfortably. And, good news, she won’t need surgery for her broken pelvis.

A young couple, two University of Colorado-Colorado Springs students, driving behind the car on the highway took Mystery to the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter after stopping traffic to pick her up.

Mystery, thought to be about 11 years old and a mixed breed, will return to the shelter for adoption after she recovers.
