There’s a simple enough explanation for all this: “Second half,” Troy Tulowitzki said. Tulo, one of the game’s most famous second-half hitters, is up to his old tricks. His second-inning home run and fourth-inning double put him at .410 (50-for-122) since the all-star break, with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 28 RBIs.
First is the worst.
There once was a time when the Rockies were all the rage in the first inning. That would have been the first two weeks of the season, when they outscored their opponents 18-4 in the first. They’ve been outscored 80-44 since, including 3-0 on Tuesday night.
Short stuff.
Jhoulys Chacin allowed eight hits and five runs in four innings in his shortest outing of the season. Chacin went six-plus innings 14 times in his first 15 starts but has lasted that long only five times in his last 10 outings.
