GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Grand Junction police bomb squad has blown up a tree on the Colorado River that was deemed a hazard to rafters.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (), authorities warned of a growing field of debris on the river after 22-year-old Alex French died in a rafting accident Tuesday.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Heather Benjamin says the bomb squad’s help was requested to remove a hazard for rescuers and boaters.
