LA SALLE, Colo.—A man suspected of holding a 6-month-old girl hostage is facing charges following a standoff at a home in Weld County.

Deputies found the baby alone when they entered the house in La Salle Friday morning. They later found 44-year-old Gabriel Esparza hiding behind a liquor store.

Weld County Undersheriff Margie Martinez says the standoff began when deputies tried to investigate a domestic dispute with the child’s mother.

According to KMGH-TV (), the woman got out safely.

Seven homes in the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution.

Esparza is facing charges of second-degree assault and violating a restraining order.
