ASPEN — City officials are considering a 20-cent fee for every plastic or paper bag used by grocery customers.
The Aspen City Council will discuss the proposed ordinance Monday. The public could get a chance to comment on the proposal Sept. 12 before officials take a final vote.
The Aspen Times reported that city officials have long talked about putting a fee on paper and plastic bags to persuade shoppers to bring their own reusable bags. Basalt and Carbondale are considering similar plans.
