Police Tuesday will honor three Fort Collins 13-year-old girls who turned in a bag of stolen cash they found in a field near their home in February.
The girls — Claire Hooker, Amy Moreng and Elise Forzley — found more than $1,100 that had been taken in the armed robbery of the Plato’s Closet clothing stories in Fort Collins almost a month earlier.
Chad Allen Mahan, 26, of Windsor arrested later the same day of the robbery, but police unable to find the stolen money until the girls turned it in.
Fort Collins police said today that had the girls not found and reported the money, the case against Mahan would have been more difficult.
On July 25, Mahan pleaded guilty to a number of charges and was sentenced to six years in prison and given credit for 194 days of time served.
