Uber Sausage: 2730 E. Colfax Ave.; 303-862-7894; . Opens at 11 a.m. daily.
The look: Small but stylish, with a Swiss-hipster feel. Deck with picnic tables overlooking Colfax and, across the street, the splendid East High School building.
On the menu: Sausages, duh. Uber Sausage sources its links (pork, bison, chicken, etc.) from Continental Sausage, then piles them onto sandwiches with ingredients ranging from barbecue sauce to apple slaw. The result? A smart, creative (but not too creative) lunch. Or dinner. Or, if it’s the weekend, a post-party snarf — Uber is open uber-late on Fridays and Saturdays.) Get some fries on the side; they’re presented in a promisingly grease-stained paper bag.
The vibe: The crowd waxes and wanes with the day, peaking at mealtimes. Colfax Avenue, which on this stretch is a pleasant, lively thoroughfare, dominates the atmosphere.
When to visit: Come for a quick weekday work lunch, or bag some to-go sandwiches for a suppertime picnic in City Park.
