KIOWA, Colo.—An Elbert County water district has raised doubts over plans for a 150-mile water pipeline from Lamar to Elbert County.

The district on Wednesday withdrew its request to expand its power statewide following protests from residents and area officials.

According to the Denver Post (), the district could have formed a water network serving developments throughout Colorado with the legal protections of a government agency.

Elbert County residents fear the pipeline will take too much water out of the aquifers. Prowers County is worried it will lose irrigated farmland and seasonal farm-labor jobs.
