Arvada police say their enforcement powers are limited after a pit bull attacked and disemboweled another dog.
Arvada police spokeswoman Susan Medina said police are investigating but cannot seize a dog if it’s not a person who was attacked.
The pit bull’s owner put down the dog voluntarily Wednesday.
Janelle Germain told 7News she was walking her dog Monday when the pit bull jumped out of a car window and attacked.
Germain’s dog died in surgery.
