Carlos Gonzalez hasn’t had the kind of season he was hoping for. Why? One word: inconsistency. “Last year was incredible because I was very consistent,” Gonzalez said. “In this game, you have to be consistent from Day One to the last one. I haven’t done that.” CarGo, who hit .228 with one homer in April, is making up for lost time. His first-inning home run gave him a 13-game hitting streak, during which he has eight homers and 24 RBIs. “I guess I was just saving it for last,” he said.
First things first.
Esmil Rogers had allowed 17 runs in the first inning of his eight starts — a 19.12 ERA — before a double-play ground ball by Juan Rivera enabled him to escape with a scoreless opening inning.
By the numbers.
The loss to Ted Lilly dropped the Rockies’ record to 21-15 vs. left-handed starters. They’re 42-54 vs. right-handers.
